Time to change careers which way to go?
61Well the time has come for me to make a decision. I have to find a new way to make a living . I have been in the construction industry most of my working life, the last 15 years building log homes. I had a fall and damaged my knee and hip and well the doctor does'nt think I will be able to return to that type of physical work.
To be honest I am scared, I'm turning 43 in August, am awaiting surgery add to thaat I don't know what I should do for a career!!! All I know is physical work, building log homes was my dream job and now thats gone. I have thought about getting into drafting using Auto CAD but the jobs are limited not to mention there are more draftsmen than red dogs.
I never thought I would have to look at a change, and now it's staring me in the face and it is ugly..lol
The fear for me is many things, What will I be good at, will I make enough to take care of my family, is anyone going to hire a 43 yr old when they can hire a 20 yr old? amoung other fears. I do have alot of drive and have always put in hard work and effort into everything I have done, I just dont know what direction to go.
I am starting my search into retraining, I would really like any advice people might have. I am willing to try almost anything so I am open to affers as well. I will keep all updated on my journey .
Thanks for reading.

Awoodog, what about working in sales of cabins or other manufactured housing? Real estate can be very lucrative, and you would have the credibility from all your experience. Well-written hub, thank you!

Making a change is harder than I thought. Moving on after so long in one field is trying to say the least. Will I make enough to feed my family? will the work be there for someone my age? alot to think about. I will keep you updated on progress.
